I am a linguist working in East Africa and at the moment I work at Leiden University Centre for Linguistics where I carry out a VENI project 
(https://www.nwo.nl/onderzoek-en-resultaten/onderzoeksprojecten/i/74/34174.html). I decided to study African languages when I was 17 years old, during a visit to Chad. I fell in love with the people I encountered and I realized that studying their languages would give me greater insight into their culture. Since then, I have been specializing in African linguistics and Anthropological Linguistics, conducting research in Tanzania and Ethiopia. I am fascinated by the relationship between language and culture, and recently I became interested in the emerging field of Digital Humanities in Africa. In my free time I am a web editor for the Digital Humanities Network in Africa (https://dhafrica.blog/) and the South Omo Research Centre (https://southomoresearch.wordpress.com/).
Ik ben een taalkundige die in Oost-Afrika werkt en momenteel werk ik bij het Leiden University Centre for Linguistics waar ik een VENI-project doe (https://www.nwo.nl/onderzoek-en-resultaten/onderzoeksprojecten/i/74/34174.htm ). Ik besloot Afrikaanse talen te studeren toen ik 17 jaar oud was, tijdens een bezoek aan Tsjaad. Ik werd verliefd op de mensen die ik ontmoette en ik realiseerde me dat het bestuderen van hun talen me meer inzicht in hun cultuur zou geven. Sindsdien heb ik me gespecialiseerd in Afrikaanse taalkunde en antropologische taalkunde en heb ik onderzoek gedaan in Tanzania en Ethiopië. Ik ben gefascineerd door de relatie tussen taal en cultuur, en onlangs raakte ik geïnteresseerd in het opkomende vakgebied Digital Humanities in Afrika.
